A draft notification has been issued by the government to revise the minimum wage for different categories of workers employed at petrol and diesel stations throughout the state.

According to the draft notification, the government will consider the revised rates two months after the notification’s publication. As per the new decided wage, Managers working at petrol and diesel pumps will receive a minimum wage of Rs 806 per day, whereas helpers, cleaners, sweepers, and peons will be paid a minimum wage of Rs 553 per day.

The revised wage will become effective on the date of the notification’s final publication. Additionally, the labour and employment commissioner will use the Consumer Price Index data for the time period between July 1 and December 31, 2022 to determine, modify and inform about the special allowance that will be effective from April 1.

The notification also stated that the commissioner will make regular adjustments and inform about the special allowance rate every six months, specifically on October 1 and April 1 each year. This will be based on the average of the Consumer Price Index for the preceding periods of January to June and July to December, respectively.

According to a senior officer, in scheduled employment establishments, if the wages set by this notification are less than those set by the central government, or those agreed upon, settled upon, or specified in a contract or contractor’s regulations, then the higher wage rate would be considered as the minimum wage and would be paid accordingly under this notification.
