Telangana prison gets 155 former convicts placed

The Prisons Department of the State conducted a job fair which saw participation of over 200 released convicts and undertrials.

As many as 155 released prisoners bagged jobs with various companies, including HDFC and Flipkart, at the ‘Job Mela 2018’, organised at the State Institute of Correctional Administration, in Telangana. The event saw participation of 230 convicts and undertrials from 31 districts and 12 organisations.

Since 2014, when Telangana state was formed, the Prisons Department has taken several steps for the welfare of prisoners, including skill development programmes, facility for loans and employment opportunities.

The Job Fair helped the participants bag jobs as security guards, delivery boys, construction workers, carpenters, drivers, marketing executives, helpers, house-keepers, technicians and electricians.

The objective of the programme was to ensure that these released prisoners have a source of likelihood and avoid the path of crime.
