Falling rupee brings down international packages at IIM Ahmedabad

The country’s premium business school, IIM Ahmedabad, is said to have witnessed a dip in terms of the highest international package offered this year, as compared to last year.

According to a report by the Indian Placement Reporting Standard, the highest package offered by a domestic company in 2018 was way higher than what was offered in 2017. An annual package of Rs 72 lakh was the highest offer made to an IIM student in 2018, as compared to the offer of Rs 53 lakhs per annum in 2017. While there has clearly been an improvement in the number of offers since 2016, from Indian companies, international offers have dwindled.

The highest international offer this year was of Rs 66 lakh, whereas last year, it was Rs 82 lakh.

This drop is said to be due to the depreciating value of the Indian Rupee as against the US Dollar.

Accenture Strategy hired the maximum candidates, that is, 18, inclusive of pre-placement offers. Amazon and the Boston Consulting Group were the second top hirers. They made 14 offers each. Other participating companies included A. T. Kearney, Bain & Co., Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, McKinsey & Company, Monitor Deloitte and Oliver Wyman.

Maximum hires were for the consulting sector followed by the banking, financial services & Insurance (BFSI) sector, with 124 and 58 offers respectively.
