According to a news report from The Information, Twitter, has implemented a new round of layoffs resulting in the termination of additional employees. As a part of cost-cutting methods, this is a fresh round of layoffs coming from the micro-blogging site, primarily in the sales and marketing division this time.

The exact number of employees affected by this recent round of layoffs is not known, but in January 2023, the company reportedly had around 800 individuals employed in these teams. It is also uncertain how many workers were impacted in the Indian region.

Reportedly, Twitter has closed down two out of its three offices in India and directed its employees to work remotely from their homes. The microblogging site closed its offices in the major Indian cities of New Delhi and Mumbai, after laying off over 90% of its approximately 200 employees in the country in late 2022. This move aligns with the mission of the platform’s owner, Elon Musk, to improve its financials and move towards profitability.

However, it still maintains an office in Bengaluru, located in the southern tech hub, which is primarily home to engineering staff. These individuals requested anonymity as the information is not public.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has laid off staff and closed offices worldwide to improve the platform’s financial situation by the end of 2023. Despite India being a key growth market for major US tech companies such as Google and Meta Platforms, Musk’s recent actions indicate that he may be attaching less significance to the Indian market at present.
