The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has improved its equipment and employee benefits on the occasion of World Labour Day. The workers will now be able to use mechanised equipment to get their work done quickly and more conveniently.
The corporation presented the workers with mechanised road broom vehicles and six JCBs to aid them in their duties. These vehicles will also be useful in draining floodwaters, which frequently create havoc in the city. The initiative will also ensure their safety.
Moreover, the government has recognised the employees’ dedicated efforts by granting a 30 per cent increase in salary for regular staff earning monthly salaries of Rs 40,000 or less. Additionally, workers earning Rs 21,000 or less will now be eligible for coverage under the Employee’s State Insurance.
In addition, skilled municipal officers will receive higher compensation. The GMC received the vehicles in a ceremony at the Bashistha vehicle depot, and officials expressed their appreciation for the government’s acknowledgement of the employees’ hard work. They also committed to maintaining their efforts to ensure Guwahati remains clean and safe for all its citizens.
