The Haryana government has approved a raise in the salary and additional benefits for rural watchmen. As per the latest notification, all the rural watchmen will now receive Rs 11,000 instead of the Rs 7,000 they were getting earlier.
The decision came after Chief Minister Manohar Lal endorsed the request for an increase in honorarium and allowances during a meeting on 31 August, 2023. Following this, the development and Panchayat department has issued a notification confirming the raise in monthly honorarium, effective from 1 November, 2023.
Along with the salary boost, the state government has also announced a raise in their uniform allowance. They will now receive Rs 4,000 instead of Rs 2,500. Furthermore, the cycle allowance—previously provided once, will now be granted every five years. However, the amount remains same at Rs 3,500.
In addition to the monthly honorarium, all facilities will be deemed applicable from the date of the notification.
Until now, there were no retirement benefits for Chowkidars. However, according to the recent notification released on Wednesday, 8 November, 2023, they will now receive a lump sum amount of Rs 2 lakh upon retirement.
