Recently, Meta declared its second wave of layoffs, which was similar in scale to the first, when the company eliminated 11,000 roles. CEO Mark Zuckerberg notified Meta’s choice to lay off an additional 10,000 workers in an email. As a result, LinkedIn once again is flooded with posts from former Meta employees seeking a new job opportunity.
One such former Meta employee, Micah Vono rather took the new move with a positive attitude. Despite being laid off after 8 years of service, he stated that he will use this period to ‘recharge and reimagine.’
“After nearly 8 years, I and almost my entire extended team of colleagues and leadership were let go in the ongoing restructuring of Meta today. I was there longer than 96 percent of the company,” he said. Vono stated that his 8 years were full of learning curves and giving varied narratives for work.
Vono also shared that he is at peace with his departure and is grateful for the opportunities he had at Meta. He mentioned that he feels sad for not being able to work on solving complex problems with intelligent people anymore, but he is also excited about taking some time off to recharge and explore new possibilities. Vono concluded his post by expressing gratitude for his time at the company and his colleagues, who he believes changed his life.
Earlier this year, during an internal meeting, Zuckerberg announced that 2023 would be the ‘year of efficiency’ for the company and that they would be eliminating some management layers to increase efficiency.
