Railway employees to get 78 days’ productivity-linked bonus

The bonus is an incentive to improve productivity and ensure speed, service and passenger safety.

Employees of the Indian Railways, will receive productivity-linked bonus this Diwali. The Central Government has approved the payment of productivity-linked bonus (PLB) equivalent to 78 days’ wages to non-gazetted railway employees for the financial year 2016–17.

The employees will be paid Rs 7000 per month as per the government statement. The maximum amount payable per eligible railway employee is Rs 17951 for 78 days.

This decision of the Central Government will benefit around 12.30 lakh non-gazetted railway employees. The payment of this producitivty-linked bonus will be made before the Dusshera Pooja holidays.

The railway employees are being given this bonus as an incentive to improve their productivity and ensure safety, speed and service for railway passengers. This will motivate them to perform their work better in the coming days.

This bonus is not being given to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and The Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) personnel.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that “According to the formula, it was calculated to be given for 72 days but for the past six years it has been a tradition of giving the bonus for 78 days, so the Cabinet has approved a 78-day productivity-linked bonus”.

This PLB will cost Rs 2245.45 crore to the government.
