An empowered committee led by the Department of Public Enterprises has approved an 11 per cent increase in the dearness allowance for employees of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. As a result, roadways employees will now receive 28 per cent of their basic salary as dearness allowance.
The employees will now receive a dearness allowance of Rs 8,000, a substantial increase from the previous Rs 2,500. Earlier, the employees were getting a dearness allowance of 17 per cent.
This decision may provide some relief to the 16,000 workers employed by the corporation. Additionally, starting January 2023, the employees and officers of the roadways utility will receive the increased dearness allowance in their upcoming salaries for the next three months.
As per a statement by Girish Chandra Mishra, general secretary, Roadways Employees Joint Council, it was revealed that the Council had requested a 38 per cent dearness allowance for employees. However, the committee has agreed to increase the dearness allowance by 11 per cent, as per Mishra, reported India Today. However, the roadways employees have expressed their appreciation for the decision.
