Cherian Thomas, earlier senior vice president of Byju’s, who led its international expansion, has resigned from the edtech company. He will now helm Impending, the studio behind apps such as Heads Up, Clear and Here Kitty as its chief executive officer (CEO).
In the new assignment, Thomas will focus on developing and expanding Impending’s range of products, while also enhancing and enlarging a worldwide pool of skilled individuals. Given his varied experience, strategic proficiencies and operational efficiency, Thomas will be able to help Impending in its business-development strategies.
His expertise lies in crafting products; maintaining a compact, immensely skilled and agile team; striving for substantial gross margins and minimising marketing expenses.
Being the inaugural international staff member at BYJU’S in 2017, Thomas is recognised for setting up the international organisation from the ground up and successfully acquiring companies such as Osmo. He played a crucial role in establishing the US operations for Byju’s. Additionally, during his tenure at the edtech company, he also served as CEO of Osmo, achieving a revenue surpassing $100 million in the fiscal year 2021.
Before being associated with Byju’s, Thomas was a co-founder of Cucumbertown, a startup backed by venture capital, which he later sold to the Japanese conglomerate Cookpad in 2016. He was also one of the initial team members at the prominent gaming company, Zynga.
Excited about his new role, Thomas believes that “Impending embodies all the actions he would take if he were starting anew.”
Welcoming Thomas, Phill Ryu, co-founder, Impending, expressed, “We share a vision of creating inspired apps with pop culture potential without compromise and have convinced each other that we are going to make it happen together.”
Impending Inc. centres its efforts on Apple products, catering to the Mac community from the early 2000s and subsequently expanding to include the iPhone.
