Training will be imparted through 36 colleges, which will eventually become centres of excellence
The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to impart skill development training to around 2 lakh individuals. This mammoth task will be completed in one year. By 2018–19, the state government, through the Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) aims to train around 15 lakh people.
This will be done by setting up six clusters for skill development in Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, Guntur, Nellore, Chittoor and Ananthapur districts. Eventually, all the 13 districts in the state will have one cluster. Each cluster will have six colleges, where students will be trained in various skills based on their interest.
These 36 colleges will eventually become centres of excellence, with better infrastructure, facilities for quality education and extra-curricular activities. Later, these colleges will either become autonomous, or apply for a deemed university status.
According to the release, the APSSDC has also proposed setting up a Skill Development University in 300–500 acres, which will house centres of excellence, manufacturing as well as an
R&D set up, along with entrepreneurship and incubation facilities, a driver training institute, an integrated school and a consortium of industry bodies.
“Skill training is imparted to people by assessing industry needs for the workforce. It not only focusses on skill upgradation or training, but also aims to create entrepreneurs who will be job creators”, the official communique stated.
