L’Oréal India to receive EDGE gender equality certification

The EDGE assessment process involves a comprehensive review of the company’s gender policies and a thorough analysis of the gender data.

L’Oréal India will be the first company from India to receive the Economic Dividends for Gender Equality certification (EDGE).

EDGE is the leading global assessment methodology and business certification standard for gender equality. The EDGE assessment methodology was developed by the EDGE Certified Foundation and launched at the World Economic Forum in 2011.

It is the only business certification for gender equality applicable universally across industries and geographies. The EDGE assessment process involves a comprehensive review of the company’s gender policies and a deep analysis of the gender data.

As a part of the EDGE methodology, L’Oréal India conducted a survey with all its employees on gender equality, covering areas like recruitment, promotion, leadership development, equal pay, flexibility and company culture. The certification was only granted after an independent verification of the findings by a third-party auditor.

    Mohit James

“Gender equality in the workplace is a subject critical in a country such as India. This win has reinforced our commitment towards practising gender equality at the workplace,” says Mohit James, HR director, L’Oréal India.

“This is not only crucial to our success across our businesses, but also gives us a competitive edge in attracting talent. Our effort towards building gender-equal leadership is continuous and this certification is a great validation of this goal,” he adds.

Since its launch at the World Economic Forum in January 2011, more than 100 companies in 30 countries and across 17 industries use the EDGE assessment methodology and certification process to create an optimal, balanced workplace for men and women. The methodology and standard enable a company to accurately assess how it performs both at the country and global levels.

“EDGE is a workforce analytics approach to inform gender equality strategies and priorities. It serves as an interpretive lens to transform quantitative and qualitative metrics into impactful action plans,” Aniela Unguresan, co-founder of EDGE Certified Foundation commented through an official communique.
