The Supreme Court says that employees cannot apply for change of date of birth at will, as a matter of right. The observation was made when an employee of the Karnataka rural Infrastructure Development Corporation applied for a change of date of birth in his service records 24 years after being appointed. As per the records of TP Nataraja, his date of birth was January 4, 1960, which he wanted changed to January 4, 1961. The data released by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) for the month of August suggests that 14.81 lakh new subscribers were added in the month, as per a statement released by the Labour Ministry. As compared to the data for July, there has been a 12.61 per cent increase in the subscribers with 9.19 lakh subscribers out of 14.81 lakh coming under the social-security ambit for the very first time.
