On December 27, 2022, Manik Saha, chief minister of Tripura, declared a 12 per cent hike in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) for state government employees and pensioners with effect from December 1.

With this, the state government employees’ DA has gone from 8 per cent to 20 per cent.

A total of 1,04,600 regular employees and 80,800 pensioners will benefit from the decision, according to Saha.

In a statement, Tripura’s CM said, “Today we have increased DA and DR by 12% for state government employees and pensioners. Now that the total DA is at 20%, it will be effective as of December 2022. Over 1 lakh regular employees and 80,800 retirees will benefit.”

Moreover, part-time employees will receive the benefit, as their remunerations have almost doubled.

Saha further added that despite the shortage of resources, the government has revised the salary structures to give benefits to lakhs of employees and their families.

The Tripura Chief Minister stated that the government’s decision to raise the DA and DR by 12% will result in an additional amount of money spent by the government. “A total of around 120 crores of rupees per month and 1,440 crores of rupees per year in additional expenses will be incurred for the same,” he said.
