A software engineer of Indian origin working in the US tried in vain to convince his employers to keep him, but he got laid off. In fact, his entire team was dissolved. And imagine his situation when he gets to know that the job he lost would be going to a fellow Indian living in India?

The said software engineer’s video has gone viral, where he speaks about how he tried explaining to his employers during the exit interview that he too was an Indian and that he would willingly return to India if they would retain him. What is interesting is that he tried telling his employers how he and his family had moved from India to the US for work. Now that his job was moving to India, he was more than willing to move back to keep it.

His video posted on X (formerly Twitter) that clearly reflects his frustration has garnered over a million views.

Many tech firms are trying to cut costs by moving their jobs to India, Google being one of them.

In early May, Google had let go 200 members from its core team as part of a cost-cutting and restructuring exercise. About 50 roles were axed from the engineering team operating out of the California headquarters. It was reported by CNBC that some of these jobs are expected to be relocated overseas, primarily to India and Mexico.

This development reflects the growing global interconnectedness of the tech industry and the incredible opportunities it creates. While it’s tough to see talented individuals in the U.S. impacted by job shifts, it’s inspiring to witness India emerge as a major player in the tech world. This move highlights the strength and expertise of Indian professionals and fosters a rich exchange of ideas and innovations across borders. Embracing these changes can lead to exciting new collaborations and growth in both countries. Let’s celebrate the spirit of adaptability and the boundless possibilities this globalized industry offers!
