Is Amazon hiring again after letting go 10,000 globally?

It hasn’t been long since Amazon announced its intention to lay off 10,000 from its global workforce.

Now, media reports seem to suggest that the tech major is hiring people, for Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Matt Garman, senior VP- sales and marketing, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has apparently told media that AWS is looking to hire more people.

As per a Bloomberg report, Amazon seeks to keep building new data centres and expand its cloud unit over the next one year. Its cloud unit provides rented data storage and computing power. That means, it will continue to invest in what is touted to be its most profit-making business, even while hiring is paused in other units as part of a companywide cost-cutting exercise.

As Garman rightly pointed out, the hiring pauses at Amazon are rather required amidst fast growth as “it’s healthy to have a time of digestion”.

Admitting that the business was growing rapidly, Garman reportedly revealed in an interview that Amazon will increase its headcount in 2023.

The Company’s cloud unit posted sales worth $20.5 billion in the quarter ending September. This was 27 per cent more than what was achieved during the same time last year, even though the growth rate was slowest.

It is reported that at times AWS has been responsible for the operating earnings of the Company in entirety. Therefore, it is not surprising that as of now, the Company reportedly hopes to keep setting up more data centres as that business is really thriving.
