Boeing wishes to see its workforce returning to office full time, that is, five days a week. Although no deadline has been set, managers have been told to work on ways to implement the return-to-office policy so that Boeing can resume office just as in pre-pandemic times. It does seem like the company is looking at five-days a week in office in 2024.
The company feels that its airplane-development work cannot do without face-to-face interaction, communication and collaboration. Some groups are reportedly already mentally preparing to return to office after the holidays.
With this move set to take away many conveniences and work-life balance for the employees, it is natural for the company to expect some resistance. The news of the hybrid mode of work coming to an end is not totally unexpected because Stanley Deal, executive VP, Boeing and CEO, Boeing Commercial Division, had broached the subject in October.
The return-to-office came to be emphasised more in the last one month with some employees already working from the physical office.
Thinking of the commute to work, traffic snarls and loss of flexibility, some frustrated employees are reportedly considering quitting. Others are hoping against hope that the company would continue with the hybrid approach as per which employees could work remotely or be present in office as per the requirements of the team / manager.
