As per the latest guidelines issued by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), pensioners covered under the pension scheme (EPS) can now submit their life certificates online any time of the year.

The tweet from the retirement fund body says, “EPS’95 Pensioners can now submit Life Certificate at any time which will be valid for one year from date of submission.”

That means, EPS pensioners will now be able to submit their life certificates digitally, at the pension disbursing bank, or any of the over three lakh common service centres (CSC), or IPPB/Indian Post Office/ postman, or at the nearest EPFO office, or even through the Umang app.

All they need to possess is their PPO number, Aadhaar card number, bank account number and mobile number linked with the Aadhaar card.

Of course, the 135 regional offices and 117 district offices of EPFO will also continue to accept life certificates as they have been till now.

The facility for doorstep DLC service can also be availed by EPS pensioners against a nominal payment.

The EPS, 1995 came into effect in November 1995. It is a social security scheme, wherein the corpus of the Employees’ Pension Fund comprises the employer’s contribution of 8.33 per cent of wage and the contribution of the Central government through budgetary support at the rate of 1.16 per cent of wages, up to an amount of Rs.15,000 per month.
