Engineering college charges part of CTC as placement fee from students

It has come to light that students of an engineering college in Bengaluru — who managed to bag job offers from companies — were asked to shell out 2.1 per cent of their CTC as placement fee.

The matter drew attention when a post by a student on Reddit alleged that New Horizon College of Engineering had imposed a ‘placement cell fee’ of 2.1 per cent of her CTC and that her certificates were being withheld by the college for not paying up. The student is obviously in a fix because she has not even joined nor has she received any salary.

The student mentions in her post that her joining process at the company is being hampered because of the college not releasing her certificates and documents. She also points out that no formal document or circular mentions this fee, nor did the students have any clue of the existence of such a fee. Apparently, this is not the first time the college has demanded such a placement cell fee. Students from previous batches have also had to pay the amount.

The demand for the fee was made verbally. Therefore, there is no written proof of the fee being charged.

Other students have revealed that despite not having participated in the placements, they were charged a fee called ‘placement training fee’.

Correct, even for Engineering Admission 2023, we paid Challan Rs 96,574 thru KCET/KEA and New Horizon Engineering College , Bangalore charged extra money of Rs.43900 per candidate in the form of cash without any receipt and they are black mailing parents along with students. Pls do justice and they are arguing with parents.
