A valuable partnership has been forged between NSDC International (NSDCI), Baton Transport, a Euro-pean road transport company and Anywhere Jobs. The collaboration will supply trained Indian trailer drivers to fulfil the shortage of drivers in Europe. This tie-up will also ensure that more women enter the trucking industry.
The demand for trailer drivers exceeds the supply in Europe. The region requires at least 1,50,000 skilled drivers. This week, Anywhere Jobs onboarded 30 highly-qualified trailer drivers for Baton Transport through a comprehensive hiring drive in Delhi.
Baton Transport, with the help of AnywhereJobs, will be hiring Indian men and women drivers who will operate trucks in Europe following the relay driving model. Already there are 10 women drivers in Baton Transport’s fleet. However, the company hopes to have 50 per cent representation of women drivers in its fleet. To achieve this, the firm will upskill Indian women taxi drivers and train them to drive trailers, in collaboration with Anywhere Jobs.
Given the safety standard being followed by the company and by European countries, this could be a good opportunity for Indian women drivers to explore.
Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO, NSDC and MD, NSDC International, sees this “transformative initiative” as an opportunity to recognise and honour the “strength of women in the trucking industry”.
He feels, “By empowering Indian women drivers, we are not only helping them reach their aspirations but also driving positive change across the entire industry. Our collaboration with Anywhere Jobs is a source of pride, as we play a crucial role in this remarkable venture.”
Deepak Garg, Founder and CEO of AnywhereJobs, draws parallels with the success of Indian women air-line pilots. He calls this partnership “an unprecedented opportunity for women taxi drivers to upgrade their skills and become truck pilots in Europe.”
