During his visit to Madhya Pradesh recently, the chairman of the Railway Board, Ashwani Lohani, said that the Railways was paying special attention to the development of human resources, even while prioritising passenger safety. Seeing a clear connection between stress levels and performance, the Railways is also making efforts to ensure a conducive work environment for all.

After inspecting the construction work at Habibganj station, which is being developed under the public private partnership model (PPP) and the work for which is expected to be completed by December 31 this year, Lohani spoke about these important agendas.

He said that the issue of passenger safety in the Railways has been important to them and to deal with it, they are focussing on the development of human resources. He mentioned that a direct dialogue with the staff had been established and they are determined to ensure a stress-free work environment for loco pilots. Staff is being counselled for the same and running rooms are also being air conditioned.

He added that locomotive pilots were not being terminated from service for skipping signals, but are being shifted to other railway works instead.

He said the Railways was working towards providing toilets and air conditioning in locomotives.
