Fear of the roof collapsing over their heads has forced the staff of Lucknow Nagar Nigam to wear helmets while working at their desks. The said zonal office is in a bad condition with its walls literally crumbling. Mortar recently fell from the roof of one of the rooms, but luckily the incident happened after duty hours, and therefore, no one was hurt.
However, the employees are not taking any chances. They are wearing helmets to protect their heads in case plaster or loose bricks should fall on their head.
The building has been around for about four decades. In Kapoorthala, Aliganj. Seepage caused by the recent rains may have resulted in the roof collapse. Reports say that the walls also have moss on them. The collapse of the roof has also damaged the floor tiles. The fault is reportedly being fixed.
Maintenace work is expected to begin in ernest once a report on the condition of all the zonal offices is submitted to the Lucknow Municipal Commissioner.
Meanwhile, in Telanga, government officials of the Mandal Praja Parishad Office in Beerpur are also wearing helmets while working. The story is the same there. The walls and roofs are in such a bad condition that employees are using helmets to protect their heads from falling plaster. A video of the employees working wearing helmets went viral earlier this month.
