Zomato, the food-delivery company, has made headlines by offering a substantial Rs 1.6 crore salary for the role of an algorithm engineer at the IIT Delhi campus in the upcoming placement season, which is set to begin next month.
This initial excitement turned into confusion when Zomato suddenly withdrew the offer. Hrithik Talwar, a research intern at IIT Delhi, claimed on social media that Zomato had come to the campus, created anticipation with a lucrative job offer, and then revoked it.
Talwar shared a screenshot instructing students who had applied for the algorithms engineer position at Zomato to withdraw their applications.
Amidst the social-media discussions, Zomato has not provided any comments or issued a statement regarding the contentious withdrawal of the job offer.
Furthermore, the job notice was circulated on multiple social-media platforms and gained attention as students and users expressed a blend of surprise and curiosity. Some doubted the legitimacy of the job offer, questioning if Zomato had indeed presented such a lucrative opportunity, while others speculated that it could be a strategic marketing move by the food-delivery company.
The story took a turn when the social-media post was updated with another notification, disclosing that Zomato had quickly withdrawn its initial job offer due to company constraints. The notice advised students to retract their applications, causing confusion on campus. This sudden development sparked various reactions online, with some users suggesting it was a Zomato marketing stunt. Others showed sympathy for the affected students, criticising the company for raising hopes and then dashing them.
