Mohapatra’s extension denied, Choudhury to be director – HR, Indian Oil

Earlier, in February 2023, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) had stated in a regulatory filing that Ranjan Kumar Mohapatra would continue as director (HR) until further orders were received from the Government. His five-year tenure as director had ended in February, but he was to continue till “further advice or communication from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG)”.

However, the Government has now denied the eight-month extension to Mohapatra. Instead, Sujoy Choudhury, director (planning & business development), Indian Oil, will take on additional charge of director – HR.

Mohapatra joined IOC as an officer trainee way back in 1986. A year later, he was absorbed as operations officer, based out of Rajbandh and Cuttack. Four years later, he was elevated to assistant manager. By 1995, he was deputy manager (S&D), Kolkata. Climbing up the corporate ladder slowly and steadily, he became general manager, West Bengal State Office. His next promotion saw him in the post of executive director, based out of West Bengal. Since February 2018, he had been serving as the director–HR, based out of New Delhi.

“This is the organisation, which has given me the experience of a lifetime, converting me from a boy to a man. And these experiences came in different shapes and sizes. If it buoyed me sometimes, it also plummeted me to a new low. But, it has always made me a winner, rich with experiences!!” said Mohapatra in his LinkedIn post.

The proposal to entrust Sujoy Choudhury with the additional charge of director – HR had come from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, which was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Choudhury, possesses over 30 years of experience across various functions of the oil industry, including engineering, retail sales and petrochemicals (marketing).
