Remote, a company that specialises in creating, managing, and supporting global distributed workforces, has recently welcomed Barbara Matthews as its new chief people officer. In her new role, Matthews  is going to be responsible for the company’s distributed teams strategic planning, implementation, and scalability.

Matthews has an extensive background in human resources, starting her career as a staff trainer and HR assistant at Super Value for almost 2 years. She then spent 12 years at Google, where she worked her way up from recruitment coordinator to the position of HR business partner, Google for Work.

Prior to joining Remote, Matthews spent 7 years at Stripe where she built the company’s HR function from scratch in EMEA and APAC, covering teams in the US and a global role. She was responsible for partnering with business leaders on their organisation’s growth, managing the global HR Operations team, and building initiatives around employee benefits, performance management, talent management, leadership development, employee relations, and more.

Matthews will be reporting directly to Job van der Voort, CEO, Remote, and will work remotely from Dublin, Ireland, which is her chosen location. Remote is a fully remote company with team members located across the globe.  It recognises that its success depends on having a people-first approach to its work. Van der Voort believes that Matthews’ expertise in creating and fostering top-performing distributed teams will be priceless for Remote’s growth trajectory.

Matthews is thrilled to join Remote at this pivotal moment in the future of work, as she  has spent her career working with distributed teams. Her focus as chief people officer will be on creating an environment where Remote’s employees can thrive and grow, and to build a culture that supports its vision of making opportunities accessible to everyone.
