Mitel, the Canadian telecommunications firm has roped in Sophie Ames as its new EVP and chief people officer.
Ames, who began her professional journey as HR manager, with Berlitz International AB, has also worked with Thomson Legal & Regulatory as HR director for five years. In 2005, she joined Amdocs as director, HR business partner, customer management division. Three years later, in 2008, she moved to Avaya, as senior director, HRBP, enterprise collaboration solutions. Three years into this role, she was elevated to senior director, HRBP, worldwide sales and global field operations. By October 2014, she became vice president – global learning and enablement, worldwide sales.
Her next stop was Veritas Technologies, where she joined as VP – human resources, in 2016. By 2018, she was elevated to SVP and chief human resources officer.
In 2021, she moved on from Veritas to join ServiceMax as SVP and chief human resources officer.
From January to August of 2023, she worked as an HCM consultant, at SoundThinking.
At Mitel, she will now be a part of the C-suite and will lead the company’s global human capital management innovation, which is significant for Mitel’s growth journey.
With 25 years of HR experience behind her, Ames is keen to build talent management and development programmes in line with “ today’s new realities” and highlight “the connection between the company’s performance and the people that drive it.” In her new role at Mitel, she will focus on “initiatives that optimise the strategic value of human resources at Mitel.”
She possesses a bachelor’s degree in business and applied foreign languages from Université Paul Valéry in Montpellier, France. She recently achieved the NACD Directorship Certification.
