Lenskart, the company that specialises in eyewear, appointed Suruchi Maitra as its new CHRO yesterday. Maitra was earlier handling cultural transformation and associated challenges at UnitedLex, as its vice president, human resources.

Fully aware that Lenskart has been growing tremendously over the last two years, Maitra realises how important the role of HR will be in providing continued support through its phase of rapid development. She will have to lead HR with a focus on the culture of the Company, which is based on a highly value- system driven. Given the exceptional pace at which it is advancing, HR will have to have the right culture and technology in place to be able to reach out to the Lenskart staff spread across the country, in its over 500 stores.

Talent development and leadership development will be other major areas of focus. Since Lenskart’s business is highly consumer centric, the significance of the consumer will have to be built into the culture and employee DNA, while keeping the workforce at the centre of it all.

Speaking on her decision to move from UnitedLex to Lenskart, Maitra shared that throughout her career whenever she has switched job, she has jumped to a different industry altogether.

Having spent six years at UnitedLex, where her mandate was to bring about cultural transformation, she overcame all kinds of challenges in helping the organisation obtain the Great Place to Work certification.

However, once her efforts to build the right culture paid off and she achieved remarkable success in making the organisation a workplace of choice, she felt she had fulfilled the goals that she had been hired to achieve. She was still considering what to do next when this opportunity in the retail sector came her way.

Maitra revealed to HRKatha that since she had never done retail before, this opportunity at Lenskart proved to be very tempting to her adventurous personality.

She is keen to take on new challenges at this new-age and fast-growing retail company.

HRKatha wishes Maitra all success in building something superior for Lenskart, and helping it achieve greater heights.
