Dutch technology investor Prosus and it’s South African parent company, Naspers, has announced that they will be cutting up to 30 per cent of jobs at their corporate offices.

This news comes on the heels of similar announcements from other major technology-based firms, such as Google parent Alphabet, which announced significant layoffs last week.

In a statement on January 25, 2023, a spokesperson for Prosus said the company is adapting to a changing macro environment and has been working for some time to strengthen its cost structures. “Today we are announcing a reduction of some roles as we realign our efforts on specific areas and reduce our cost base,” the spokesperson said.

This highlights that the companies are taking proactive measures to adapt to the current economic situation and to ensure their long-term financial stability.

Prosus is a global investment group that invests and operates across sectors and markets with long-term growth potential. It is among the largest technology investors in the world. The company has invested across multiple verticals, including social / gaming, classifieds, payments and fintech, edtech, food delivery and ecommerce.

Prosus and its parent company, Naspers, operate around 15 corporate offices globally, with the largest located in Johannesburg and Amsterdam.
