The upper age limit for applying for government jobs has been extended by two years in Maharashtra. With this revision, now those who wish to apply for stage government jobs in the open category can do so till the age of 40. Those applying in the reserved category can apply till the age of 45.
The move, it is hoped, will allow more people to be recruited to government posts. Additionally, job seekers who lost out on opportunities during the pandemic years will also get a chance at a government job.
Many candidates from across the country, primarily those aspiring to clear the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exams, have been demanding that the age limit be relaxed.
The State government will be recruiting about 75,000 people this year, on the occasion of India’s 75th year of Independence. However, this relaxation will be allowed only till 31 December, 2023. The relaxation will apply even to hiring ads that were posted or issued before announcement of the extension of age limit.
Thousands of job seekers aspiring to be government servants will benefit from this relaxation.
The exam pattern of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC), which was to be modified to resemble the new UPSC exam pattern, will also now happen later. This decision was taken following protests from job seekers. The Maharashtra government then directed the MPSC to implement the new pattern in 2025.

It’s good that the age is relaxed, but why there is a discrimination against general public and SC/ST/OBC, when both are the citizens of India. All the citizens should have equal rights irrespective of caste/creed/age/gender.
This discrimination in age and caste is one of the major demotivating factors and the reason lots of people leave India who can be an asset for developing India.
