K.Raheja Corp will financially assist its employees and provide paid leave for the adoptive parent-employee.

While companies across the country are busy adopting employee-friendly maternity and paternity policies, real-estate major, K. Raheja Corp, has introduced a new adoption assistance policy for its employees.

As per this programme, the company will not only provide financial assistance to the employees, but also paid leave for the adoptive parent-employee. This policy is applicable for the adoption of maximum two children. The financial assistance would be of Rs 40,000 for a girl child and Rs 30,000 for a boy child, to help offset the expenses that the employee would incur during the adoption process.

In addition, the company has also introduced adoption leave to provide time, following a legal adoption, for parents to bond with their adopted child and help the child feel comfortable in her/his new environment.

Urvi Aradhya, senior vice president – HR, K Raheja Corp, says, “Paternity and maternity are necessary benefits and we offer both. However, such initiatives lead to more contented employees, and have a direct impact on commitment levels, performance and retention.”

In fact, the company has also recently revised its maternity benefits to four months from the mandated three months.

“With awareness and more acceptability for adoption, we are seeing an increase in the number of people opting for this noble initiative. In fact, I know of people who already have children and have still gone ahead and adopted a child,” she adds.

The company believes that adoption merits assistance. And, it is their way of acknowledging this noble gesture and contributing to a good cause, by providing support to the employees as they go through this important transformation in their personal space.

Once the employee has applied for the benefit, an adoption assistance committee reviews the request and assists with formalities. Currently, two of its employees are in the process of availing the benefit.
