The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has entered into an agreement with Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) and Jaquar Foundation (JF). An MoU to this effect was signed recently as per which the three will together work to establish the relevant infrastructure, provide equipment and offer training support to the youth of the country.

This collaboration will not only contribute towards the Skill India Mission, but will also scale the capacity of the training centres affiliated with NSDC. This will facilitate better training of students using the latest tools, technology and machinery, and enable them to perform better at this jobs right from the initial stage.

Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, NSDC, said, “NSDC strives to support inclusive growth and address the demand mismatch through these partnerships wherein the industry brings in their technical expertise and contributes towards setting up or modernization of training infrastructures. These partnerships with major industry players – Honda and Jaquar – will not only benefit youth who undergo high-quality trainings but also allow the industry to meet its requirements for trained manpower.”

To start with, HMSI will upgrade ten automotive two-wheeler repair labs to conduct a course for ‘automotive service technician’ (2 or 3-wheeler). In the next phase of collaboration will attempt to scale up the labs further, by providing vehicles, tools and equipment. HMSI will help build the capacity of NSDC training partners at different locations around the country.

Jaquar Foundation, a unit of Jaquar Group, the bathing solutions company, will establish and upgrade 50 plumbing training labs offering support in terms of infrastructure and manpower. Its customer-care representatives will be sharing product-installation techniques as guest faculty. The training programme will enhance the technical abilities of the trainers and trainees and also increase the employability of the candidates. This will be a huge contribution considering that plumbing, under the construction industry, is an unorganised sector comprising about 90 per cent untrained plumbers, who pick up the skills on-the-job. Also, the construction industry and related spaces face a huge dearth of professionally-trained plumbers. is one of the major challenges in the construction and related sectors. This collaboration with Jaquar will be a significant initiative to equip trainees with formal training.

Till date, NSDC has approved over 350 training providers and 39 sector skill councils (SSC), with a geographical spread of over 7,000+ training centres in more than 600 districts across the country. The Corporation has managed to train over 1.4 crore people across sectors.

Its industry partnership and CSR division associates with various industries to support the Skill India Mission and enables organisations to execute their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives by creating maximum impact for beneficiaries.
