Annual Fit4life initiative at TCS goes virtual

As a part of its Fit4life initiative, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) successfully held its first ever virtual running event, Run as #OneTCS on the occasion of Global Running Day on June 3, this year.

Fit4life is an annual event of TCS, which is usually a 10k time-competitive event bringing together like-minded individuals to promote physical fitness among professionals, while contributing to a social cause.

This year, given the circumstances, Global Running Day at TCS was celebrated virtually. Over 50,000 associates of TCS pledged and actively participated in the event. Associates from around the world pledged to go for a run, walk or perform a cardio workout either indoors or outdoors, whichever is safer.

Together, TCSers vowed to cover 128,000+ kilometres through this event. Reimagining Global Running Day through a virtual medium, speaks volumes about the importance placed by the organisation on being active, even though physical events are on a hold, due to the pandemic.

Milind Lakkad, EVP & CHRO, TCS, also pledged and participated in the Fit4life initiative. He reiterated that TCS has made fitness a top priority, and emphasised that during the present conditions, it is even more important to focus on individual and family health. Encouraging the participants, Lakkad said, “In the new normal, we may be separated by a pandemic, but today we run as #OneTCS. I hope all of you can inculcate whatever we have learnt in this initiative and apply it to your lives. Onwards and upwards!”

Realising how important the initiative is during these challenging times, TCS is rightly pointing out that turning to physical activity will help relieve anxiety and stress. It will ensure an individual’s mental and physical well-being when it is most needed.

This year, TCS has also partnered with Striders Miles, the professional fitness training company, to train its associates and their families across its branches on an online platform. The collaboration is aimed at developing a fitness regime, to improve the employees’ lifestyles by helping them inculcate healthy habits. All associates who have participated in the event will be awarded an e-certificate and will be able to avail offers from ASICS (Anima Sana In Corpore Sano), a Japanese multinational that has sponsored the prizes for the event.
