India and Germany have entered into two formal agreements, to collaborate in the areas of skill development and vocational education. The formal agreements will facilitate mutual consultations, systematic exchange of policies at various levels and also technical support between the two nations. While one declaration of intent (DoI) has been signed with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (referred to as BMBF) for cooperation in skill development and vocational education and training, the second was signed for Dual VET initiative, marking sustainable growth of skills, with Siemens, India.
Following this pact, there will be more focus on enhancing the quality of trainees, by equipping them with advanced technology skills and helping them find jobs in innovative, sustainable sectors and technologies, such as renewable energy, e-mobility and energy-efficiency.
The agreements will help create a suitable framework for skill development and vocational education and training for inclusive and sustainable growth.
Considering that India requires demand-oriented skilled workers, there will be a joint effort by both countries to offer high-quality training so that the youth of India are ready for the future, where both public and private sectors will work hand in hand.
This collaboration will allow India to raise the quality of vocational training by ensuring that adequate capacities are built within organisations and training institutes.
With Germany being a leader in manufacturing and innovation, it is the ideal nation to partner with. The association will help strengthen India’s skill development initiatives.
Many areas of cooperation have been identified based on discussions in the Indo-German Joint Working Group on Vocational Education and Training and on bilateral consultations, including Dual apprenticeships and workplace-based skill development at the cluster and policy levels.
Support and cooperation have also been ensured in this endeavour from German companies operating in India, along with the Government of India and Indian companies working in the field of skill development and vocational education and training (VET).
