The e-commerce company, Snapdeal, has announced that it will be hiring 120 engineers this year, as part of its plans to expand its technology team. The Company has further enhanced its personalisation and recommendation features for its users.
According to Snapdeal, which is competing with rivals Amazon and Flipkart, the ‘Snapdeal 2.0’ strategy launched in 2017 has helped the Company achieve three times growth in terms of business volume, while simultaneously reducing cost by 90 per cent.
Snapdeal added nearly 150 members in its technology, engineering, product and design teams in the year 2018-19. Interestingly, the recruits were all former employees of Snapdeal who re-joined to take up roles in the technology, supply chain, user growth, marketing and business verticals.
The new hires will work on projects, such as machine learning, gamification, personalisation, and cloud-agnostic production systems among others.
The current openings are not merely for entry level, but span mid- and senior levels too, covering areas, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, full stack, as well as Java back-end, and front-end engineering. The Company is also planning to add vernacular components to the buying experience.
Snapdeal has been facing heavy competition in the e-commerce market of India, after it turned down a takeover offer by rival company Flipkart, valued at USD 950 million.
It was then that co-founders Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal decided to come up with a new strategy. After implementing the new strategies, the losses have been substantially brought down to Rs 613 crores in 2017-18 from Rs 4647.1 crore in 2016-17.
