To help employees meet their necessary requirements during the upcoming festivities of Durga Puja, the Bihar government is disbursing salaries to employees in advance. All the government officials and employees have begun receiving their October salaries starting 18 October, 2023.
The finance department has also instructed the concerned departments to ensure and take all necessary actions for the salary payments to be made to all the officials and employees on the decided date.
The government has been making such advance payment of salaries on special occasions under the rule of the Treasury Code-2011. Usually, all the gazetted and non-gazetted officers withdraw their salaries through the Withdrawal Establishment Bill. Their salaries get credited on the last working day of that respective month.
Earlier this year, the Bihar government announced advance payment of salaries in anticipation of the Bakr Eid festival. The finance department shared an official directive where the departments were instructed to disburse June salaries by 28 and ensure pension payments for retirees just the next day.
Similarly, in the previous year, the government workers in Bihar received their October salaries earlier than usually scheduled. The decision was announced by the state’s finance minister, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary that the salary disbursement to all officials and employees will commence on 20 October, 2022.
The decision was made because Diwali was falling on 23 October, 2022 and shortly thereafter, within less than a week, Bihar was to observe Chhath, which is the state’s most widely-celebrated festival, characterised by three days of rituals.
