Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is thinking of allocating four per cent of its workforce, which consists of 54,000 employees, to improve and strengthen its enterprise services. This implies allocating a portion of the employees specifically to enhance the services provided to businesses and enterprises.
The company is considering boosting its workforce in the enterprise business, especially since it has seen a drop in revenue in this segment over the past two quarters.
According to financial statements, BSNL’s revenue from the enterprise segment fell by 50 per cent, going from Rs 1,906 crore in the January-March quarter of the 2022–23 financial year to Rs 952 crore in the July–September quarter.
Of the 54,113 employees of BSNL across the country, as of September 30, 2023, only 1.8 per cent (977 employees) were in the enterprise segment.
According to a recent letter addressed to chief general managers (CGMs) of all circles, PK Purwar, chief managing director, BSNL, highlighted the significance of the enterprise business as a high-potential revenue segment.
He urged all BSNL department heads to focus on building relationships with customers to foster growth in the enterprise business. The instruction is to assign more staff to the enterprise business segment by December 2023, and this responsibility has been given to the department heads.
As per the report, in the first half of the current financial year 2023, up to September, BSNL’s enterprise business revenue dropped by 10 per cent compared to the previous year, reaching Rs 2,007 crore.
