In a memo sent to employees, a high-ranking Citigroup official has encouraged employees to report any instances of inappropriate conduct following a lawsuit filed by a managing director within the company. The lawsuit claims that she was sexually harassed by an equities manager at the global financial services institution.
The case was filed by Ardith Lindsey, managing director, Citigroup, against the bank in New York, alleging that it minimised her grievances regarding Mani Singh. Singh had previously served as the North America markets head of cash equity execution services before resigning in November 2022.
Lindsey accused the bank’s equities division of fostering a ‘notoriously hostile’ environment. She claimed that Singh subjected her to instances of sexual harassment and abuse, including death threats.
After the complaint, Citigroup stated its intention to defend against Lindsey’s allegations.
Replying to these allegations, Andy Morton, global head-markets, Citigroup, emphasised on 21 November, 2023, that no colleague should face discrimination or harassment, as reported by Bloomberg. Additionally, referring to the recently filed lawsuit, he stated that the company will take decisive action if unacceptable behaviour is identified.
Morton also emphasised that each individual within the organisation plays a role in fostering a culture of the utmost standards. He stated that it is essential for everyone to intervene when witnessing misconduct. If someone experiences or observes inappropriate behaviour, they are encouraged to report their concerns through official channels without the fear of facing retaliation. These channels include reporting to managers, reaching out to human resources, or utilising the company’s ethics hotline.
