Arvind Kejriwal, chief minister of Delhi, made an important announcement regarding the job status of MCD staff members. During an event arranged by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), he announced that all temporary employees working for the department will be given permanent positions or regularised.

Kejriwal pointed out that the employees of MCD have received punctual salary payments over the past two months. Additionally, the tax collection of the civic organisation has risen as well.

He also distributed appointment letters to 370 newly-appointed permanent employees. The event took place at Thyagaraj Stadium on 21 August, 2023, and was attended by Mayor Shelly Oberoi (AAP ruled MCD) and Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj.

The Chief Minister expressed that the joint efforts of MCD employees and officials will transform Delhi into the ‘cleanest city in India city’ in the nation within the next couple of years. He also expressed faith that the residents of Delhi will actively participate in the ongoing cleanliness campaign to make the city neat and clean within the next few months.

At the start of 2023, employees of MCD faced issues related to their salary release. Many didn’t receive their January pay, while the pay for February was also due. Releasing some amount, the Delhi administration then disbursed close to Rs 2,000 crore to allow MCD to pay the salaries of civic employees. The corporation had obtained a little over Rs 1,600 crore from the Delhi government. Out of this amount Rs 730 crore was allocated to settle the pending salary dues.
