There is reason for the 18,000-strong workforce—including ground staff, cabin crew and pilots— of Air India to smile. The airline has decided on annual appraisals for all staff members who joined before 31 December 2023. The pay hikes will be given based on the new performance-management system, Rise.AI.

This is part of the airline’s five-year transformation plan, under which it is offering competitive pay hikes to draw talent and also retain them. and retain talent as part of larger efforts to have a performance-driven and meritocratic culture among the employees.

Post the airline’s takeover by the Tata Group, this is the first time the appraisals are happening. The increments will vary for pilots in the range of Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 according to their rank and experience. As per media reports, over and above the increment in fixed pay, the pilots can expect a new target performance bonus of up to about one lakh a year. This will be dependent on the performance of individual pilots and will apply from the financial year 2024-25.

Ravindra Kumar GP, CHRO, Air India has conveyed to the employees that the hikes will be effective 1 April 2024, and the performance bonus for FY 2023-23 will be paid on the basis of the performance of the individual as well as the airline itself.

First officers and captains will now earn Rs 5000 more per month than what they did in terms of fixed pay. Commanders will see a hike of Rs 11,000 per month , while senior commanders wille earn Rs 15,000, more per month. Junior first officers will not be receiving any hike in monthly fixed pay. They will, however, receive the annual bonus of Rs 42,000.
