Punjab government employees who have been eagerly awaiting the release of arrears, which have been long-overdue, are in for good news.

On 23rd May, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann finally fulfilled the much-awaited demand of the state government employees to release the arrears of six per cent dearness allowance (DA). He cleared the file which was sent to him by the finance department.

These arrears had accumulated during the previous government’s regime and have been due since July 2015. Therefore, employees have been waiting for the same in anticipation and eagerness.

The release of the arrears is a significant step taken by the current administration to address the grievances of the employees and fulfil their rightful entitlements.

The action taken by Mann demonstrates the State government’s commitment to prioritising the welfare and financial well-being of its employees.

In a tweet, Mann shares the news of the release of the DA instalment and calls it ” a big gift for government employees”. He also reveals that the payment of arrears “will cost the state exchequer Rs 356 crores”.

Recently, the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued a directive to the state government, urging them to expeditiously settle the outstanding arrears.
