Relief to KSRTC staff at last, pending salaries to be cleared today

Employees of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will witness their arrears being cleared before the state festival, Onam, as assured by the chief minister.

During a meeting with union representatives, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed the management of KSRTC to ensure that henceforth salaries are disbursed by the 5th of every month.

The salaries for June were already in the process of being paid. Drivers, mechanics, conductors and ministerial staff had received their June salaries, but station masters and transport officers are yet to receive their salaries.

The unions have expressed their disagreement to the 12-hour single duty shift. They have shown preference for the eight-hour single shift. The Chief Minister, however, advised that the matter should be discussed at length, separately.

The Corporation will, henceforth, be divided into three zones headed by executive officers. Each zone will follow a single-duty system on rotational basis.

The employees will not get an Onam advance or bonus given the poor financial condition of KSRTC. However, it was decided that as per the new work norms for mechanical workshops, drivers and conductors will be given daily allowances and incentives, which will be deposited in their accounts on the same day.

Mechanical and ministerial workers will be redeployed and temporary mechanical staffers will be appointed in the posts that are rendered vacant in the process.
