As per statistics released by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, for 2022, the state of Gujarat accounted for 43 per cent of the total employment provided via Indian employment exchanges. That means, of the 6.44 lakh youth who bagged jobs, 2.74 lakh did so in Gujarat.
Gujarat has also been the leader when it comes to providing jobs to those from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories in 2022.
Of the 38,700 youth from the SC category who were employed in India, 58 per cent were employed in Gujarat. That means, 22,600 SC youth were given jobs in Gujarat. Similarly, of the 22,000 youth from the Scheduled Tribe who got employment through exchanges in India, about 19,000, that is, about 86 per cent were employed in Gujarat.
This is not the first time Gujarat has led in providing employment. This has been the case for the 20 years.
In terms of ensuring that women are a significant part of the active workforce too, Gujarat has done remarkably well. In 2022, of the total of 1,22,700 women who given jobs, about 45,800 (37 per cent) were from Gujarat.
From 2019 to 2023, over 15 lakh youngsters came to be employed via the employment exchanges. During this period of about four years, more than 7,000 job fairs were organised, where over eight lakh youth seeking employment successfully bagged jobs.
