Matchmaking services, wedding increments for SMI staff

Sri Mookambika Infosolutions (SMI), the Madurai-based global technology solutions company, offers free matchmaking services to its employees.

Ever since its inception about 15 years ago, SMI has been offering its employees a special increment on getting married. The employees were anyway receiving a fixed six to eight per cent hike in salaries twice a year. Now the 750-strong workforce can avail of free matchmaking services too. About a dozen employees have availed of the service already.

Not surprisingly, the Company has faced very low attrition for a long time now. A significant 40 per cent of the workforce has been with SMI for at least five years!

The Company’s main challenge was people moving to Tier 1 cities to tie the knot. Most employees have aged parents staying in Tier 3 cities who cannot help much when it comes to finding a suitable spouse. Therefore, SMI took it upon itself to help its employees handle this issue.

As per TOI, despite several hiccups at the beginning, SMI has progressed from being labelled a small Madurai-based startup that struggled to find quality talent, to a fair and much sought-after employer.

While everyone is given a fair chance to perform and prove their worth, and also receive an increment every six months, the Company is reportedly strict about accountability too. That is why, four to five per cent of low performers are asked to leave annually.
