Officials across various departments of Delhi government and all municipal bodies will not be allowed to take leave for the next two months till the state comes out of this monsoon-related crisis.
Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has directed that officers of municipal bodies and engineering departments should be available at all times to continuously the situation. Senior officials who are on leave have been asked to get back on duty. For the next two months, no leaves will be sanctioned, as per the directive.
An emergency control room has been set up where senior government officials will be working 24×7. The number of this control room will be shared with the public who can reach out for any assistance or to report any waterlogging or rain-related incidents.
With merely three hours of heavy rain bringing the capital to a standstill and causing damage to property, officials are working round the clock to complete the desilting work of all drains across the city.
The National Disaster Response Force will be on standby to offer assistance in any case of emergency, while the power department has been given the responsibility to ensure that DISCOMS see to it that no naked wires are left unattended that may cause short circuit.
Bridge-owning bodies are being asked to ensure that waste and debris from construction are cleared from the floodplains and major drains so that there is free flow of water.
Delhi has been struggling with severe waterlogging and the monsoon has also taken about a dozen lives. The roof collapse and leakage at Delhi Airport only added to the woes.
