Showing its commitment to its Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) agenda, Standard Chartered Bank has announced the extension of medical coverage to the LGBT partners of its employees. The Bank will also offer domestic relocation benefits to LGBT+ partners of its staff.
Through this announcement, the Bank has allowed its LGBTQ staff to nominate an LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other identities on the queer spectrum) partner, as a beneficiary under the organisation’s medical reimbursement policy. The partners so declared will also be eligible for the benefits of the domestic relocation policy.
By ensuring equality in terms of employee benefits, the Bank has clearly shown its commitment to a safe, equal and inclusive work environment for its LGBT+ staff.
The Bank had earlier launched an employee resource group (ERG) for LGBT+ and allies called GLAD (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, allies and advocates). In collaboration with LGBTQ activists and various NGOs, this resource group keeps organising sessions and workshops to sensitise the employees of the Bank. The objective is to make everyone aware of the community and its need for equal treatment.
