Infosys appears to be open to allowing employees to take up external projects provided their managers approve. In fact, media reports indicate that the Company is considering altering its policies to let employees work on gigs on the side, outside the Company.
While announcing the Company’s Q2 results, Salil Parekh, CEO, Infosys reportedly said that the Company will ensure that the policies on taking up gig work externally will be designed keeping in mind the confidentiality and contractual commitments. At the same time, Parekh has made it very clear that Infosys does not allow dual employment.
The Company has fired many employees in the past one year, for working two jobs.
Infosys will not tolerate employees working for two specific companies and compromising on confidentiality.
Accelerate is a platform that Infosys has set up wherein employees can work on other gigs in addition to their primary job. Apparently, about 4,000 employees apply for these gigs on a quarterly basis and about 600 are selected.
In the past, Infosys has made it clear that moonlighting is another word for ‘two timing’ which is inacceptable.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Wipro have also spoken up against moonlighting, and so has HCL Technologies.
The Q2 results revealed that Infosys has hired 40,000 freshers in the first half of the financial year, and the target for the year may go higher. With freshers being onboarded as planned and on time, hiring is expected to exceed the target.
