The increased focus on e-learning programmes in India has resulted in a demand growth for online tutors. The average annual salary of an online tutor in the country ranges between Rs 4.80 lakh to Rs 9.25 lakh per annum. According to Indeed, a jobs search platform, its data reveals that searches for teaching jobs have gone up by 41 per cent from 2016 to 2019.
While there was an 11 per cent fall in the number of those seeking teaching jobs in 2016-17, there was a 14 per cent rise in that number in 2017-18.
India’s online education market, which stood at $247 million and 1.6 million users, is expected to grow to $1.96 billion and 9.6 million users by 2021.
Technological advancement and widespread popularity of e-learning programmes are responsible for the increased demand for online tutors and e-educators.
Also, online tutoring pays better. A teacher in India, on an average, earns a salary of Rs 2.19 lakh to Rs 5.88 lakh a year, whereas through online tutoring, the same teacher can earn anywhere between Rs 4.80 lakh to Rs 9.25 lakh a year.
Online teaching avenues will only help the teaching profession to advance and grow.
These findings were based on a close study of salary data collected by Indeed over the past three years.
