The Shangri-La Group has appointed Hein Dames as its new vice president-human resources. Through his extensive experience and expertise, Dames will oversee and support the group’s brand presence in the the Middle East, India, Americas & Europe region (MEIA). In his new role, he will also work to cultivate a culture of excellence.
He has been fulfilling his duties in the new role since September.
A highly-regarded HR professional, Dames comes with extensive experience in both the Middle East and Asia. He is well known for his problem-solving approach and skill in building successful teams.
With a career spanning over two decades, Dames has worked with many companies, including Sun International, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Jumeriah Group and Naga Worlds.
His longest stint was with Sun International, where he started his human resource career. He joined the group in the year 1995 as its human resources-manager. He also spent nine years with the Jumeriah Group before moving to NagaWorld in the year 2020 as its chief human resources officer.
Enthusiastic about joining the Shangri-La Group, Dames is considering it a significant milestone. He admires Shangri-La’s unwavering commitment to customer service and looks forward to tackling the opportunities and challenges that come with his new role. He is eager to collaborate with exceptional colleagues who have played a crucial role in the company’s success, and he anticipates establishing strong professional relationships and fruitful collaborations in the months ahead.
Dames holds a master’s degree in employee/labour relations from the University of Johannesburg, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Pretoria.
