The Indian government has been accused of not allotting spectrum for 4G services to BSNL so that Reliance Jio can have an edge. The favouritism shown to Reliance Jio by the Government has not gone down well with the employee unions of BSNL, who are going on an indefinite strike from December 3, 2018.

Their demands include immediate allotment of 4G spectrum to BSNL so that its 4G services can be rolled out. The unions are also demanding that the Government implement the rule pertaining to payment of pension contribution by BSNL. The revision of wages and pension have also been sought, w.ef. January 1, 2017.

This is not the first time that the workers are protesting. Earlier, they had demanded revision of pension as per the 7th Pay Commission, which had benefited central government pensioners but not BSNL/MTNL retirees.
