About 300 staff members of Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) are expected call an indefinite strike soon if their deamands are not met within the next 15 days.
Members of the CMRL Employees Union have drawn the attention of the concerned authorities to issues pertaining to dearth of staff, outsourcing of work, frequent technical snags due to hiring of untrained contract workers, absence of extra pay for overtime and night shifts, wage discrimination and several other issues.
The Union plans to meet the labour commissioner and industries minister to discuss the grievances of the permanent as well as contract staff.
The leaders of the Union clarified that while they do not want to disturb smooth functioning or inconvenience the citizens, they are quite concerned about the safety of the public, which is why they are planning the strike.
